Love Local: A Celebration of Community Impact and a Commitment to What's Next

“Love Local” was the theme as community members gathered in Hillsborough to support the work
of the Jackie Speier Foundation. As Jackie often says, “My vision is to eliminate child poverty in San Mateo County. We can do this.”
The event, spearheaded by chair Lilli Rey and a
group of wonderful volunteers,
celebrated the Foundation’s accomplishments
while raising more than $250,000 to advance
innovative solutions for children and families
throughout San Mateo County.

A highlight of the evening was an update from Dr. Ryan Padrez, Medical Director and Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University, on the Baby Bonus Program. The Foundation provided seed funding and helped mobilize more than $12 million for a three-year pilot serving families with newborn babies in San Mateo County. The initiative combines direct financial support with coordinated care resources and includes a Stanford University research partnership evaluating long-term outcomes for families and children, including how financial support and care coordination may influence early childhood development and future outcomes.
The fund-a-need segment of the evening raised over $40,000 for an immediate response fund to help families with emergency and unexpected needs during these challenging times. As a single parent of 3 children shared with us, being poor in San Mateo County is hard - and expensive.
